Type 2 Summer Dresses

What makes a dress a Type 2 summer dress? I’m so glad you asked.

Yes! Summer dresses are an excellent option for us Type 2s. The flowing design line of a dress is naturally relaxed and soft. Dresses are a great way to add a graceful, gentle touch to your wardrobe. In the summer, they can be lightweight and free-flowing, allowing you to stay cool and stylish in the summer heat. A summer dress is typically a casual option that looks great with sandals or even sneakers! Looks great with a light layer like a cardigan or denim jacket. Use your Style Guide to make sure the colors are perfect Type 2.

Here are some things to consider when it comes to summer dresses: choose a dress that is one layer. Some dresses are designed with an under-layer, and you’ll want to avoid those as they add extra heat. For me, a summer dress is like a glorified T-shirt. All you have to do is throw it on! Easy-peasy. (“Swing dress” is a great style for this easy feel.) I like the midi length for summer rather than the maxi length, as the shorter style has less fabric and helps you stay cooler. If it hits below my knees to mid-calf, I can move around more freely as I do housework, play with my kids, sit at a picnic outdoors, etc. With this touch of length, I’m not worried about moving around and the dress revealing anything. Bonus if the dress has pockets. Love that added functional feature.

Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 2/1—Choose dresses with more animation and playfulness. For example, a ruffled sleeve, scalloped neckline, smocked bodice, etc. You will enjoy those fun details. A dress with a small-medium size pattern will feel great on you!
  • Type 2/3—Choose dresses that move with you. Avoid dresses that require extra work – a slip, too much fabric, a neckline that feels too low. You want to be able to put it on and forget about it! Choose dresses that have added texture either in the fabric or the pattern. A medium-larger sized floral print is perfect, for example.
  • Type 2/4—You may feel weighed down in a dress that is too flowy in its design line and fabrication, so choose dresses that are more structured in their cut and fit. You will love the ease and simplicity of a dress! If it feels too much movement to wear a dress covered in floral print, choose a solid color option and add a touch of pattern to your shoes or accessories. You may also like a dress with a more blended pattern or a subtle stripe.
