Makeup, hair, and nails can feel a little daunting—until you know what to do with them!

I’m Jaleah, your Type 1 Expert, and I’m so excited to show you how to take these popular trends and make them totally Type 1!

That’s what we’ll be doing here. I’ll teach you about each trend, then tell you what to do to make it Type 1, along with some considerations for each secondary Type! And of course, I’ll show you photos of every trend. Let’s dive in!

As a Type 1, we love possibilities, and these trends give room for plenty of fun interpretation! Be sure to lean into the ones that light you up, and go light with the ones that feel too heavy or serious. As we dive in, you’ll see what I mean!

Makeup Trends

Pick and choose the trends that speak to you, or wear them all together like I did here.

1. Colorful Eyeliners

These are perfectly in-season, bringing such a playful and vibrant element into all makeup looks. They align with the joy and optimistic spirit of spring. It’s time to say goodbye to the traditional black and brown eyeliners (for now) — have fun with making a bold, colorful statement! A helpful tip: make your eyes the star of the show by opting for a more neutral lip, like a nude, gentle pink, or brown lip gloss.

Does this trend favor Type 1 and how to make it work?
This trend is so, so fun for us Type 1’s. If you haven’t been wearing colorful eyeliner yet, now is definitely the time to start! Adding more color is exactly what we should be doing as Type 1’s and the eyeliner is a perfect way to do it!

Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 1/2 – try using your blender brush to make the liner not such a stark line
  • Type 1/3 – try a longer wing; it will make your eyes look more dynamic
  • Type 1/4 – Do a bolder, thicker line

What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Colorful Exuberance

2. Rosy Pink Blush

Oh, the sweet, sunkissed glow you’ll get with this trend! Pink blush shows a minimalist and natural aesthetic. It’s perfectly feminine, and it goes beautifully with the Girlcore Trend we talked about last week! It embodies the essence of spring, bringing a touch of blooming vitality and fresh beginnings.

You betcha! Brighter pink cheeks were made for a Type 1! Buy you’re blush from us here at DYT. We have taken the time to test all the blush we sell and we know the right ones for you!

Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 1/2 – You may want to use the Cocktail; it’s more of a neutral pink, and it won’t feel like too much.
  • Type 1/3 – You’ll love using the Sunkissed blush as it gives you more of a bronzing pink.
  • Type 1/4 – You can get such fun bold color from our Pink Mango blush

What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Beaming Brilliance

3. Brown Glossy Lips

A flattering trend carrying over from Fall/Winter 2023 Style School. Browns and neutrals are still in, and they’ll pair perfectly with those colorful eyeliners we just mentioned! Go ahead and combine it with a gloss, since bringing in some high shine will create a girly, romantic flare. Brown lips provide a modern twist on classic nude lip looks, offering depth without being overpowering. If brown lips worry you, rest assured: this color complements a wide range of skin tones and can be easily paired with various makeup looks, from natural to dramatic!

This has been a fun trend to play with as Type 1’s usually wear color on their lips. We have taken a lot of time to find amazing browns and neutrals that will work well for our Type 1’s. So know that this trend is totally available to you Type 1’s as we have found fantastic colors that will make this pop for you.
Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 1/2: Blend in your lip liner before you put on the gloss, and do not have too large a contrast between the gloss and liner.
  • Type 1/3—You need to try the darker liner-than-gloss trend. It creates a really dramatic look when your lips are lined darker.
  • Type 1/4 – Use a lipstick too, it will make the brown a bit deeper.

What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Beaming Browns

Hair Trends

Here’s the good news: everything from last fall is still on trend! Those side parts, bangs, textured bobs, and bouncy layers will still have you sailing into summer. Now here’s the even better news: the new spring/summer trends will make those styles even more playful, luxurious, and feminine!

1. Style: Soft Waves

This season we’re seeing a departure from overly-styled looks by embracing soft waves and natural curls. This low-maintenance look emphasizes an authentic journey into self-expression by accepting one’s own unique hair texture. If you don’t have curly hair then you can add soft curls with a curling iron or flat iron or try heatless waves. Maybe you have curls in hiding and it’s the perfect time to bring them out!

Does this trend favor Type 1 and how to make it work?
I love this trend! Embracing any curl we have in our hair is such a healing thing. A curling wand taken to the top of the hair and doing small sections will make the curls super bouncy and more pronounced. If you have no curl use a good hold spray and curl using a curling iron, or wand in smaller sections. You’ll get a great bouncy curl.
Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 1/2 – You may enjoy a longer hairstyle, and adding these curls will be darling.
  • Type 1/3 – Do thick and thin pieces of curls. That will create a thicker, lion-maneesque look.
  • Type 1/4 – Have the curls move in a similar motion away from your face. This will give you a more sleek overall look.

What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Bouncy and Buoyant

2. Color: Dark Roots with Subtle Highlights, and “Bronde”

We’re seeing low-maintenance hair color trends gaining momentum, focusing on easy-to-maintain looks that require minimal touch-ups and upkeep. Balayage and subtle highlights allow for a more relaxed process and longer intervals between salon visits. No need to worry when your dark roots start to show — it’s on trend!

“Bronde” is a great color choice for this season. It’s a nice mix of blonde and brown, allowing for less upkeep with color. Bronde also goes by other names, such as syrupy blonde, maple blonde, caramel blonde, golden brown, and honey blonde balayage.

This trend is really great for your piggy bank and can work great for Type 1’s, too. Make sure your blonde is bright, not ashy. All the time you save not going to the salon will also be fantastic.
Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 1/2 – Less contrast between the dark root and the blonde will be best.
  • Type 1/3 – Use the contrast to your favor, dark roots, light blonde. You’ll love that
  • Type 1/4 – Either have a more overall blonde, or bolder highlights of the blonde

What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Crisp and Expressive

3. Girlcore Hair Accessories

Girlcore is really showing up this season! Bows, claw clips, barrettes, and headbands offer a playful and versatile way to elevate any hairstyle quickly. They add interest and personality to your hair, dipping back into childhood with a girly and feminine vibe. The possibilities for personal expression and creativity are endless! You might think this trend is only meant for a certain Type or age, but I invite you to give it a try!

So fun for us to get even more girly! Colorful bows, barrettes, and headbands. I couldn’t think of anything better for us!

Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 1/2 – you’ll love the romance of the bows and pearls
  • Type 1/3 – Bigger, more dramatic clips and barrettes are ones you’ll love.
  • Type 1/4 – Go big or go home; you can go Bold with this!

What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Jovial Delights

Nail Trend – Short, Nude, and Glossy

Nude, glossy, and low maintenance? No pun intended, but we’re seeing a trend here! You’ll get such a tidy and clean nail look, which effortlessly displays a sophisticated vibe that anyone can pull off. Nude nails give an illusion of length by elongating the fingers, even with a short length. It’s practical and elegant—what more could you ask for?

How to pick the best nude nail: go one shade lighter or darker than your skin color. Finish off with a glossy top coat to give them a nice shine and finish for a feminine touch.

Does this trend favor Type 1 and how to make it work?
We can make any neutral or nude trend work. Find the brighter, glossier nudes.
Any secondary Type considerations?

  • Type 1/2 – nail shape is what to consider; rounder/longer could be fun
  • Type 1/3 – square nails will be great for you
  • Type 1/4 – shorter or very long.

What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Refreshing and Bright
