I’m Anne, your Type 2 Expert, and I’m so excited to show you how to take these popular trends and make them work for Type 2.
I’ll teach you what each trend is, then I’ll tell you what to do to make it Type 2, along with some considerations for each secondary Type! And of course, show you photos of every trend – you can even shop by clicking on them!
As a Type 2, we love details, both in our style and when gathering information. I’m giving you the lowdown so you can keep the trends as simple or as elaborate as you’d like. Let’s get going!
Makeup Trends
Minimal Makeup
Minimal makeup focuses on enhancing natural features with a light touch and simple products. It involves using lightweight foundation for a natural finish, grooming brows without heavy filling, applying subtle eye makeup with neutral tones and minimal mascara, and adding a soft flush of cream blush to the cheeks. Lips are kept hydrated with tinted balms or nude shades, and the overall look emphasizes healthy, well-moisturized skin. This trend highlights simplicity and a polished yet effortless appearance. The Dressing Your Truth Store has the perfect lineup of products to support you in achieving this natural, effortless look.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
Definitely! This low-maintenance makeup look for every Type. You just need to use the right colors for your Type! The advantage of minimal makeup is that you will use fewer products so there are less details to figure out along the way. You can create a minimal makeup collection and that can be your go-to look on busy days this seaon. (Hint: I already made that collection for you!) The new Type 2 DYT Color Stick is my favorite new tool. It’s such a pretty pink that goes with everything. I would recommend not skipping the prep and prime steps when you apply minimal color. Having a good primer base will allow the makeup to last all day.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Add some sparkle and shine by adding a bit of light shimmer shadow on your eyes. Apply under your brow arch and in the inner points of your eyes to make them pop! Add a little pop of shimmer with this nude gloss.
- Type 2/3 You’ll love how fast this look can be. Add a bit more color to your cheeks to bring in more warmth. Accentuate your eyes with a slightly more substantial eyeliner application. I’m loving this liner right now!
- Type 2/4 Easy peasy! Concise and simple is what you will appreciate about this minimal look. Add a little more depth to your lips so you don’t feel washed out. I love this medium pink – it goes with everything and has great staying power.

2. Played-Up Eyes:
The “played-up eyes” trend emphasizes making the eyes the focal point of the makeup look, often with bold and dramatic effects. The spring trend had us playing with colorful eyeliners, this fall we’re moving back to basic black or brown liners, but playing up the movement created around the eyes. This trend includes smokey eyes, winged liners, and thick and voluminous lashes to create a striking and eye-catching appearance. The focus is on creating a high-impact look that draws attention to the eyes and allows for artistic expression and experimentation.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
This look can really draw on the romantic expression of Type 2 energy. They say the eyes are the window to your soul, so let the world see how beautiful and elegant you are as you play up your gorgeous eyes! As a Type 2, the blended smokey eye would be a great choice as it creates a diffused and softened quality. This will be a great alternative to the minimal makeup. Enjoy both options depending on what your feeling and the occassion!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Try a light winged liner with the Felt Tip Liner to add a bit of whimsy. Add a pop of shimmer in a soft pastel to keep it fun and fancy!
- Type 2/3 Go deep! Really lay it on thick with the mascara and deepen the eye liner to bring out your secondary’s exotic quality.
- Type 2/4 This will be so beautiful on you. You’ll want to keep it more clean and simple. For a precise winged liner try the Felt Tip Liner and top it off with a light wash eyeshadow.

3. Deep Lips
The “deep lips” trend focuses on bold, rich lip colors that make a strong statement. Last year the fall lip color was all about red, in 2024 we’re seeing the color options expanding to include more dark, intense shades such as berries, plums, and browns… and our color of the season “black cherry”. Deep lip colors can be applied in various finishes, from matte to glossy, and are often paired with minimal eye makeup to keep the focus on the lips. This trend embraces a classic, high-impact aesthetic, perfect for making a confident impression and adding a touch of elegance to any look.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
The classic shade of red lipstick does not work for Type 2s, so this version is perfect for us! We look best in a berry or burgundy red, so we have lots of options here. Pick your favorites and enojy! be sure to try some new colors too. And then mix and match liners, lipsticks and glosses for an entire new look!
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Go for the lighter and brighter side of Type 2 red. I recommend Boysenberry Lip Liner with Amusing Lip Oil.
- Type 2/3 This season favors both browns and reds, for fun try mixing your brown liners with your red lipsticks and see what colors you come up with! For example… try Berry Lip Liner with Alexa Lipstick!
- Type 2/4 Deep lips look stunning on you! Keep your eyes simple (see above) and you’ve got all you need! My favorite red lip combo for a T2/4 is Wineberry Lipstick with Boysenberry Lip Liner.

Hair Trends
1. Cut: Just Below the Chin Bob:
This year we’re seeing the shaggy textured lob from 2023 get cleaned up. A box-shaped chop with blunt ends, clean lines, and little to no layers is the cut of choice this season. Creating a sleek, versatile look this length is flattering for various face shapes and can be styled in multiple ways, from straight and polished to soft waves or curls. It offers a modern, sophisticated appearance while being low-maintenance compared to longer styles. The bob just below the chin strikes a balance between the classic bob and longer cuts, providing a fresh update to traditional hairstyles.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
This cut can definitely work for Type 2s. It’s great because it’s a little longer than the traditional bob which adds just the right bit of length needed for a Type 2 bob. (Carol teaches that as a Type 2 you don’t want your hair to end right at your chin because it will make your jaw line look fuller. So this cut thankfully avoids that!) You will want to avoid a really blunt line as that will look severe on you.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 and Type 2/3 Add a few layers to avoid a blunt edge and bring in some movement.
- Type 2/4 While you will still want to bring in some layers to avoid a harsh line you can do a cut with fewer layers to accentuate the still, clean Type 4 secondary.

2. Color: Burgundy Brunette
A rich and sophisticated twist to traditional brunette shades. This hue combines deep brown tones with hints of red and purple, creating a multidimensional and luxurious appearance. Burgundy brunette hair adds warmth and vibrancy to the hair. Adding dimension and depth to hair color while maintaining a low-maintenance appearance. The burgundy tones can range from soft, understated highlights to bold, statement sections, allowing for versatile styling options.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
I’m excited about this trend. I don’t have any plans go this color with my hair, but I just love the addition of burgundy to brown. This color is naturally more rich and warm (Type 3), but it can totally work for Type 2. Some names that would describe the color for Type 2 are Deep Plum Brunette or Wine-infused Brunette. Tell your stylist you want cool-neutral undertones to achieve the best color. If an all over color doesn’t strike your fancy you could play with adding pieces of this color or even doing a violet based toner or wash to add a bit of plum to your hair. If you’re a natural blonde this would be a good way to go if you just want a touch of this burgundy brunette trend.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Try an ombre color application keeping your roots dark and lighter color on the bottom – or vice versa! This will help keep the movement light and add an element of fun.
- Type 2/3 Rather than an all over color application you could add in chunkier sections of the color to achieve more dimension.
- Type 2/4 This would be a stunning choice for you. An all over color application would definitely create a bold statement. Rather than going super dark in your color choice choose a burgundy brunette color that is close in level to your natural hair color so the contrast isn’t too harsh.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Cool, Softened
3. Style: Big Hair
Big hair is back, and bigger than ever! If you feel like you’re headed straight back to the 80’s, you’re right! The “big hair” trend is all about bold, voluminous hairstyles that make a dramatic statement. Achieving this look involves techniques like backcombing, teasing, and using volumizing products to add significant lift and fullness. Textured waves or curls are often created with styling tools like curling irons or rollers, enhancing the hair’s body and bounce. Layering adds movement and prevents a flat appearance. To maintain the look, regular touch-ups and specific products are essential. Overall, the trend celebrates hair’s potential for volume and texture, offering a vibrant and memorable style.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
Va-va-voom! This trend is all about Type 2! Soft, big, luscious curls and voluminous body create a soft quality around the face. Whether you have naturally fine straight hair or thick curly hair you can make this trend work. Adding layers to your cut will help achieve more movement and volume.
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 This trend is all about the volume and height so it will play to your secondary 1 really well.
- Type 2/3 Play up the “lion’s mane” look with this big hair trend by adding texture and dimension.
- Type 2/4 You appreciate well set hair so you won’t want messy big hair. But not all big hair has to be messy or wild and crazy. Get volume at the roots and around the crown of your head to create a bigger style than you’re used too. See how you like the results!

Handbags
Large handbags. Big bags to match your big hair! Handbags trends this season range from very small to very huge. We’re focusing on the big side of things! This trend features oversized bags that provide ample space for everyday essentials, making them both practical and fashionable. You can choose a more structured large bag to a slouchy bag with unstructured shape. They come in diverse styles, including totes, satchels, and duffels, and can be crafted from materials like leather, canvas, or synthetic fabrics. Large handbags can also serve as a fashion statement, becoming an accessory to your whole outfit. The structured large handbag will pair nicely with the “Quiet Luxury” trend, while the slouchier bag will harmonize with the “Boho Chic” styles.
Does this trend favor Type 2 and how to make it work?
- I’m guessing most Type 2s appreciate a well organized bag that is medium-smaller, so this larger-than-life bag trend may feel awkward and cumbersome. For everyday use I use a small purse that holds very few items. But I do like a large bag for when I’m on the go – the pool, a road trip, a picnic. A large size bag is not an everyday choice for me. It’s easy to find large handbags for Type 2, so I guess the size just comes down to personal preference! What size handbag do you prefer?
Any secondary Type considerations?
- Type 2/1 Keep your handbag more medium in size so it doesn’t weigh you down. Choose a patterned bag to add some animated movement and color to your outfit.
- Type 2/3 You will enjoy the most variety here – from slouchy to more structured. Have fun with adding some hardware and pattern for extra details and texture.
- Type 2/4 Rather than a slouchy bag choose a satchel or tote with pockets and storage in all the right place. You’ll know it when you’ve found it!
