When it comes to creating your personal style, you might be putting a lot of emphasis on your clothes—but with DYT, there are endless ways to express yourself and show off your unique flare!
Let’s talk about 3 big ones here: makeup, hair, and nails.
For Spring/Summer 2024, these trends feel vibrant, refreshing, and feminine. They give off a low-maintenance, easy vibe!
Makeup, hair, and nails can feel a little daunting—until you know what to do with them!
I know the feeling. I’m Carol Tuttle, creator of Dressing Your Truth, and I’m super excited to share all of these popular 2024 Spring/Summer trends and help you make them work for you, true to Type 3!
I’ll teach you about each trend, then tell you what to do to make it Type 3, along with some considerations for each secondary Type! And of course, I’ll show you photos of every trend.
Makeup Trends
Pick and choose the trends that speak to you, or wear them all together like I did here.
1. Colorful Eyeliners
These are perfectly in-season, bringing a playful and vibrant element to all makeup looks. They align with the joy and optimistic spirit of spring. It’s time to say goodbye to the traditional black and brown eyeliners (for now)—have fun making a bold, colorful statement! A helpful tip: make your eyes the star of the show by opting for a more neutral lip, like a nude, gentle pink, or brown lip gloss.
In the Type 3 store, you’ll find many wonderful, colorful eyeliners. For our spring/summer trends, I chose purple and green. I adore this trend because we can blend our own Type 3 colors, and yes, they’ll suit all secondary Type 3’s. Purple is rich and vibrant, unexpected, while green aligns with our color trends. Let’s showcase them in our eye makeup.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Rich and Vibrant

This tutorial is also fabulous as it will teach you some application tricks to incorporate your secondary energy into your eye makeup look.
2. Rosy Pink Blush
Oh, the sweet, sunkissed glow you’ll get with this trend! Pink blush shows a minimalist and natural aesthetic. It’s perfectly feminine, and it goes beautifully with the Girlcore Trend we talked about last week! It embodies the essence of spring, bringing a touch of blooming vitality and fresh beginnings.
One thing I love about our DYT makeup is that we always offer trending colors perfectly suited for your Type! Instead of focusing on your secondary, consider the makeup look you desire. Opt for Mauvewood blush for a dressier, professional appearance. Go with the Bronze Rose option for a casual, fresh, and natural look.
In our most recent 2024 Makeup Month tutorials, I taught a fantastic new way to apply blush, which you can see here.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Warm and Rosy.
3. Brown Glossy Lips
A flattering trend carrying over from Fall/Winter 2023 Style School. Browns and neutrals are still in, and they’ll pair perfectly with those colorful eyeliners we just mentioned! Go ahead and combine it with a gloss, since bringing in some high shine will create a girly, romantic flare. Brown lips provide a modern twist on classic nude lip looks, offering depth without being overpowering. If brown lips worry you, rest assured: this color complements a wide range of skin tones and can be easily paired with various makeup looks, from natural to dramatic!
You either love brown lip colors or you don’t! I aim to win over the skeptics! Brown adds richness and neutrality to your lip makeup, as it goes with every Type 3 color. Our Copper Penny is a must-have classic for all Type 3s. Our newer Toast lip gloss, with its thicker formula, can be layered over Copper Penny for a finishing touch. For a lighter, natural look, try our Honeybun lip liner with the Toast lip gloss. Brown complements all Type 3s.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Sizzling hot!
Hair Trends
Here’s the good news: everything from last fall is still on trend! Those side parts, bangs, textured bobs, and bouncy layers will still have you sailing into summer. Now here’s the even better news: the new spring/summer trends will make those styles even more playful, luxurious, and feminine!
1. Style: Soft Waves
This season we’re seeing a departure from overly-styled looks by embracing soft waves and natural curls. This low-maintenance look emphasizes an authentic journey into self-expression by accepting one’s own unique hair texture. If you don’t have curly hair then you can add soft curls with a curling iron or flat iron or try heatless waves. Maybe you have curls in hiding and it’s the perfect time to bring them out!
Go curly with this curly bob cut in an A-line style. This would work great for both a type 3/1 and a 3/4. A Type 3/2 would want to go a few inches longer with the length.
Do you lack natural curl but can add some soft waves? This style can be adapted to any length.

Let’s keep going and bring in even softer waves!

All Type 3s can adapt these to their hair’s natural tendencies and preferred length. Remember that the hairstyle needs to have asymmetrical movement, and a deep side part is best. KMS Hair Products makes some great products to style with to bring out whatever curl or wave you are going for.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Asymmetrical and Soft-to-Curly.
2. Color: Dark Roots with Subtle Highlights, and “Bronde”
We’re seeing low-maintenance hair color trends gaining momentum, focusing on easy-to-maintain looks that require minimal touch-ups and upkeep. Balayage and subtle highlights allow for a more relaxed process and longer intervals between salon visits. No need to worry when your dark roots start to show — it’s on trend!
Each of these “Bronde” styles is a great option for all Type 3s. This trend emphasizes color, so as long as you stay true to your natural color or opt for a Type 3 hair color, including caramel blonde, golden brown, honey blonde balayage for dyed hair, you’re set. It’s also an excellent choice if you’re transitioning from colored hair to natural gray.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Substantial and Angled.
3. Girlcore Hair Accessories
Girlcore is really showing up this season! Bows, claw clips, barrettes, and headbands offer a playful and versatile way to quickly elevate any hairstyle. They add interest and personality to your hair, dipping back into childhood with a girly and feminine vibe. The possibilities for personal expression and creativity are endless! You might think this trend is only meant for a certain Type, or a certain age, but I invite you to give it a try!
This one took some creative thinking to come up with an option for each Type 3 and secondary as there is not much edgy in “girlie” hair accessories. I’m excited to see what you come up with and choose to share in the Lifestyle Facebook groups. Here are the options I think work great.
A Type 3/1 benefits from a secondary Type 1, allowing for cuter energy with hair accessories. Headbands in Type 3 colors and patterns are fun and easy to incorporate accessories.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Spunky and Cute.
A Type 3/2 can include softer headbands in any Type 3 color as hair accessories.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Spirited and Soft.
Well, my Type 3/4 friends, while Girlcore hair accessories may not entirely fit our vibe, I’ve found a fantastic option: leopard print resin barrettes! Yes! I’ve been using these for years. Regardless of your hair length, adding a clip can switch up your style or add a dynamic element to your hair!
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Dynamic and Structured.
Nail Trend – Short, Nude, and Glossy
Nude, glossy, and low maintenance? No pun intended, but we’re seeing a trend here! You’ll get such a tidy and clean nail look, which effortlessly displays a sophisticated vibe that anyone can pull off. Nude nails give an illusion of length by elongating the fingers, even with a short length. It’s practical and elegant—what more could you ask for?
How to pick the best nude nail: go one shade lighter or darker than your skin color. Finish off with a glossy top coat to give them a nice shine and finish for a feminine touch. If you want to try a color this season, be daring and try our rich and dynamic Type 3 chartreuse green.
Whether you prefer to paint your nails or use press-on nails, this fresh and natural nail trend works for all Type 3’s with no secondary considerations.
What keywords are important to remember for this trend? Practical and Natural.
Lots to play with this Spring/Summer season when it comes to makeup, hair, and nail trends!
Which trend caught your eye? I’d love to see which one is your favorite! Please share in the Lifestyle Facebook group any new updates incorporating these trends. Style School is all about trying new things!
I’m so excited to see your new looks and for you to inspire other members as we all uplevel our styles this season.
