These are the staples in my Type 4 makeup routine—products I reach for again and again because they deliver precision, bold color, and long-lasting results.
1. Tinted Primer & Buffer Brush
Why I love them: In my 20s, I wore a light powder foundation. In my 30s, I switched to full coverage. Now, in my 40s, I’ve embraced Tinted Primer for light, breathable coverage that still looks polished. (For reference, I wear “Light.”)
I add a dab of Concealing Cream where needed, but this combination is perfect for daily wear.
The Buffer Brush makes application seamless—blending both the primer and concealer for a flawless, smooth finish.
2. Favorite Eyeshadow Colors
Why I love them: No matter how minimal my makeup is, I always include eyeshadow. These two shades have been my weekly staples for years. Together, they give the perfect combination of depth and shimmer.
Hibiscus – My go-to crease color. It defines deepens without overtaking. It pairs beautifully with greens and other neutrals. This is one of the only shadows I’ve completely used up—twice!
Freeze – A shimmering highlight that brightens the inner corners and adds dimension to any eye look. It blends flawlessly with any color combination.
3. Favorite Lipsticks
Why I love them: I’m a lipstick girl. The two I find myself going to over and over are Classic Coral and Ocean Drive. I love the saturated color of lipstick and the non-sticky hydration they offer.
Classic Coral – The perfect balance between red and pink, making it incredibly versatile. I usually wear it with Risky Me – Lip Liner for crisp definition.
Ocean Drive – A frosty, icy pink with a hint of purple. It’s creamy, smooth, and ultra-hydrating, giving a bold yet refined finish. I wear this with My Magenta – Lip Liner.
4. Primers for Long-Lasting Wear
Why I love them: If you’re not using an eye primer, your eyeshadow isn’t reaching its full potential. Since I generally use Tinted Primer as my foundation, I often skip other face primers but never eye and lip primers.
Eye and Lip Primer– Keeps eyeshadow vibrant and crease-free all day. A tiny swipe is all you need.
Age-Defying Lip Primer – Prevents feathering and fading, so your lip color stays bold and defined. Without it, you’ll be reapplying all day.

As a Type 4 woman, having a structured and efficient makeup system is essential. I love knowing everything has its place, making my routine streamlined and intentional. But for daily wear and travel, I create a seasonal capsule makeup set, selecting a few key products and keeping them in a makeup bag for quick access.
This system allows me to enjoy a simple, polished routine while still having the flexibility to switch out colors and refresh my look throughout the year. It’s the perfect balance of structure and creativity—keeping my routine effortless while honoring my love for bold, beautiful color.
2. Systematize Your Eyeshadow
Eyeshadow can feel overwhelming with all the colors, finishes, brushes, and techniques, but it doesn’t have to be complicated! Here’s my simple formula for beautiful eyeshadow:
- Start with an eye primer to make colors more vibrant, prevent creasing, and ensure long wear.
- Choose three shades: a medium matte for the crease (I go for pink or orange), a dark hue to deepen the outer corner, and a light shimmer for the inner corner and browbone.
- Use the right brushes: The Blender Brush for the crease and highlight and the Angle Shadow Brush for precision with the darker hues are all you need. The Brush Kit is the best deal on must-have brushes.
- Learn your eye shape and apply your shades accordingly.
