Now, let’s dive into the trends and tailor them to our Type 3 nature.
1. Preppy
This season we’re seeing a lighter, more casual approach to the Tailored Look from Fall 2023 Style School. The best way to capture this is with that classic “prep school” look: polo shirts, cable-knit sweaters, chino pants, crisp collars, dickes collars, pleated skirts, sweater vests, blazers, cardigans, and striped button-downs. For patterns, you can add gingham, houndstooth, and argyle, and fabrics such as tweed and denim. Think of preppy style as a school-inspired aesthetic with “play it cool” details. You’ll look put-together, but playful too!
Does this trend favor Type 3 and how to make it work?
While this year’s trend may not align with the Type 3 movement, it’s easily adaptable. Despite its lack of expressing a rich, dynamic edge, it offers swift patterns and substantial textures. The design lines lean towards Type 4, but through accessorizing, we can definitely add some edge to make it our own.
Any secondary Type considerations?
Type 3/1: Craft an edgy preppy ensemble with a playful twist by incorporating chinos, polo shirts boasting swift, lively patterns, and crisp collars, along with knee-high and crew socks featuring houndstooth and argyle prints. Add plaid skirts, cropped cable-knit vests, and sweaters, as well as denim jeans, jackets, and skirts for an effortlessly preppy vibe. Keywords to remember: Edgy and Fun.
Type 3/2: Get the perfect blend of Type 3/2 energy with cable-knit sweater vests, denim jeans and skirts, midi pleated skirts, cardigans, chinos and polo shirts with soft fabrication, and houndstooth or argyle socks. Keywords to remember: Nubby and Soft (nubby textures with soft fabrication).
Type 3/4: Incorporate houndstooth, argyle, and plaids, along with substantial chinos and textured polo shirts. Add crew socks featuring prints for a stylish touch. Integrate pleated midi skirts, cable-knit vests and sweaters, and denim pieces for a structured, edgy look. Layer with a jean jacket or blazer for extra flair. Keywords to remember: Dynamic and Structured.

2. Girlcore
Girlcore—what’s that?! Get ready to embrace your feminine energy with this trend! It’s all about girly, romantic finishing touches: ruffles, sequins, satin, organza, big bows, lace, and 3D florals. It evokes a nostalgic nod to childhood or dressing up for holidays. While pastels often dominate, you can rock Girlcore easily in our Type 3 colors with confidence. Let’s see how we can embrace the romance as an edgy Type 3!
Does this trend favor Type 3 and how to make it work?
This trend is easiest for Type 3/1 and Type 3/2 beauties, as incorporating secondary energy with “girly” touches is simple. For Type 3/4, I’ve discovered what works.
Girlcore embodies a yin energy expression, being light, playful, and soft. Since Type 3 energy is double yang, those with secondary Type 1 and 2 energy possess enough yin to make it work. Type 3/4 will need to follow my guidelines.
Any secondary Type considerations?
Type 3/1: Incorporate textured lightweight laces, ruffled necklines or hemlines, smaller scale 3D florals, and a touch of sequins for garment finishes. Ruffled and puffed sleeves. Avoid bows in your hair – try them on your shoes, and don’t let the girlie take over the outfit; lead with Type 3 energy. Keywords to remember: Textured and Cute.
Type 3/2: Incorporate a touch of ruffles and lace, elongated swift patterns, softer, elongated bows, and fuller sleeves. Keywords to remember: Rich and Romantic.
Type 3/4: Avoid appearing excessively cute or soft. Integrate textured, large-scale lace in a top bodice or sleeve, or choose a cardigan or blazer. Incorporate substantial ruffles and floral patterns. If you’re inclined to try bows, consider a substantial bow on a shoe. Keywords to remember: Dynamic and Feminine.
3. Wide-Leg Cropped Pants
In Fall Style School, we covered the Wide-Leg Denim trend. Now, it’s the warm-weather counterpart! These pants hit at or slightly above the ankle, boasting a loose, wide-leg silhouette that flatters any figure. Whether casual with cargos or more relaxed with flowing styles, this trend suits denim, linen, or a professional look.

This trend is fantastic for all Type 3s; we don’t need to consider secondary energies here. The wide-cropped pant design line mimics an A-line, creating a flattering V shape. The only consideration is how cropped to go for your body shape. A safe length is at or just above the ankle. Keywords to remember: Substantial and Colorful.
4. Bold Floral Patterns & Prints (especially roses!)
Florals are making a strong statement this season, perfect for spring, as they bring an immediate sense of optimism and joy. Large-scale flowers in vibrant hues against contrasting backgrounds are trending. Look for floral embellishments and embroidery to infuse that garden vibe into your wardrobe. Mix botanical elements, abstract shapes, and artistic interpretations of flowers into your patterns, including tropical motifs, garden landscapes, and vintage floral patterns.
Does this trend favor Type 3 and how to make it work?
This trend is highly Type 3-friendly, emphasizing substantial scale and swift movements. Embroidered embellishments add texture, while tropical motifs, often exhibiting Type 3 movement, complement this season’s trendy floral color scheme with their rich colors. The only consideration for each secondary is the scale of the pattern.
Any secondary Type considerations?
Type 3/1: Smaller in Scale.
Keywords to remember: Swift and Fun.
Type 3/2: Medium in scale.
Keywords to remember: Swift and flowing
Type 3/4: Larger in scale.
Keywords to remember: Swift and substantial
5. The Colors Green & White
Green: Red was the featured color in Fall Style School. This time, we’re going to the opposite side of the color wheel! Green symbolizes renewal, growth, vitality, and sustainability. While this trend includes all shades of green, you’ll want to refresh your greens true to your Type. This video series is a great place to start learning your Type’s greens. And as always, refer to your Style Guides!

We’re going to have a blast with this trend. I often wear various shades of green, from olive to rich forest green, and our distinct Type 3 shade, chartreuse (You will want to show this color off in your Facebook Posts in the Lifestyle group). Green is undoubtedly a signature color for Type 3 women; even our deepest forest greens make excellent substitutes for black.
In the Dressing Your Truth program, there are no secondary considerations when it comes to colors. All Type 3’s and secondaries can wear our Type 3 greens, ranging from light to dark shades. Just ensure they harmonize with your Style Guide when making selections. Keywords to remember: Rich and Dynamic.
White: This is a classic color with timeless appeal. It imbues the air of purity, simplicity, and sophistication. We’re seeing white show up specifically in dresses. Whether it’s a flowing maxi dress or a tailored pencil skirt, white garments offer a blank canvas for styling, allowing for endless possibilities. This video is a great place to start learning your Type’s white. And as always, refer to your Style Guides!

6. Shoes – Flats Are Back
The spring 2024 shoe trend prioritizes sophistication and comfort—a fantastic combo! Flats, like ballet flats, are making a comeback, along with mules and small kitten heels. Embrace the “girlcore” trend with embellishments like bows and ribbons for an extra feminine touch. Plus, I found a perfect Type 3 penny loafer just for us!

This trend works if you keep your shoe design true to your Type 3 shades, textures, and patterns.

Square and pointed toes suit all Type 3’s, with softer, more oval designs work for casual tennies and slip-ons.
Types 3/1: Rounded toe.
Type 3/2: Oval toe.
Type 3/4: Square and pointed-toe.
Keywords to remember: Dynamic and comfortable.
7. Layered & Colorful Jewelry
This spring brings a slew of exciting jewelry trends! Colorful pieces are all the rage, with pops of pastels and vibrant tones echoing the season’s joyful mood. Layered necklaces are making a comeback, offering personalization and variety. Pearls are also big, adding a timeless touch to outfits—perfect for the preppy aesthetic. And after a decade of gold dominance, silver jewelry is making a comeback, much to the delight of Type 2’s and Type 4’s!
Jewelry is the key to unleashing our Type 3 style! These trends are perfect for Type 3’s when we emphasize edginess and substance, sticking with our Type 3 metals and skipping the silver trend. Substance doesn’t necessarily mean going bigger; smaller pieces can still pack a punch with texture and geometric designs. For a modern and trendy layering combo, jazz up that elegant pearl strand with a chunky gold chain or a mix of mismatching chains for an edgy, fashion-forward look.
Any secondary Type considerations?
Type 3/1: Adding multi-colored pieces, layered lightweight chains, chains with charms, bangles, and tan-colored baroque pearls with a more substantial chain. Keywords to remember: Chunky and Light.
Type 3/2: Lighter-value shades, medium chunky chains, elongated necklace lengths, and longer, multi-strand baroque pearls. Keywords to remember: chunky and Flowing.
Type 3/4: Stick with monochrome pieces in rich Type 3 shades. Opt for shorter lengths for statement impact. For casual styles, layer lighter chains. Keywords to remember: Chunky and Bold.
