We had an unforgettable session during our latest Style School Hair Live, welcoming back the ever-talented Emily—longtime friend, expert stylist, and one of the original team members behind Dressing Your Truth. For those who’ve followed us since the early days of our salon and retail space, you’ll remember Emily’s transformative work with countless women over the years. And today, she’s still working her magic—only now, she’s bringing two decades of professional hairstyling experience infused with the insight of Energy Profiling.
In this event, Emily joined Anne in studio for a joyful, in-depth look at this season’s most wearable hair trends. From face-framing layers to lived-in color, they broke down what’s working right now and how to make these trends your own—based on your Type and lifestyle. The session also featured live consultations with real women from each of the four Types, giving the community a front-row seat to personal, transformative suggestions.
Let’s dive into the highlights from the event.
Reintroducing Emily: A Stylist with Energy-Profiling Insight
Emily discovered Dressing Your Truth as a working stylist and quickly saw its impact—both personally and professionally. As a Type 1 with a secondary Type 2, she brings a light, optimistic energy into the salon, paired with thoughtfulness and sensitivity that helps her clients feel seen and supported. Her approach? Co-creation. Emily emphasizes working alongside each woman to craft a style that reflects not only her physical features but also her personality and preferences.
“I bring my skill and expertise, but also create a space where clients feel empowered to contribute to the vision. It’s a win-win. I get to hang out with amazing women and help them feel beautiful.”
The 4 Hair Trends We’re Loving Right Now
Emily and Anne kicked off the live session by reviewing the four hair trends featured in our recent Style School seasonal guide. These trends are stylish, approachable, and easy to tailor to every Type.
1. Face-Framing Layers
These soft, strategic layers bring movement around the face and suit all hair lengths and textures. Whether you’re adding a fringe or subtle shaping, this trend is incredibly versatile.
“They create support for shape and style,” Emily shared. “It’s one of those trends anyone can adapt—no matter their cut or hair type.”
2. Fairy Waves
Think soft, imperfect curls with a lived-in finish. This relaxed texture gives a natural, effortless vibe and works great for Type 1s and 2s, but can be adapted beautifully for all Types.
“It’s about embracing variety and texture—less polished, more organic,” said Emily.
3. Princess Updos
Not a haircut, but a style statement! These playful updos leave a few romantic tendrils loose, adding softness and dimension. Perfect for warm days or a fresh change without a big commitment.
“This is where face-framing layers come in again—adding lightness and shape even when hair is pulled up,” Anne noted.
4. Lived-In Color
Natural-looking, low-maintenance hair color is in. Think softer roots, more blended highlights, and color that grows out gracefully. It’s all about enhancing what you already have.
“Whether it’s demi-permanent color, finer weaves, or dropped highlights, this trend honors your natural tones with less upkeep,” Emily explained.
Real-Life Hair Consultations for Every Type
In one of the most beloved segments, Emily gave personalized hair consultations to four guests—each representing a different Type. These moments showed how applying trends and tailoring them to Energy Types creates results that are not only beautiful, but deeply authentic.
(15:28) Mariah – Type 1
Mariah, from Oklahoma, was stuck in a limbo between long and short hair. Her thick hair often ends up in a bun, hiding its beauty. Emily recommended face-framing layers and soft fairy waves to reintroduce movement and bring attention back to her joyful Type 1 energy.

“You’ve done the hard part—growing it out,” said Emily. “Now it’s time to make it work for you, not against you.”
(27:09) Leslie – Type 2/1
Leslie’s fine, thinning hair lacked the movement and fullness she wanted. Emily suggested lifting her length slightly and incorporating airy, soft layers and curtain bangs to create gentle structure around her face.

“Sometimes less length gives the illusion of more fullness,” Emily explained, “especially with fine textures.”
(43:10) Shawni – Type 3/2
Dynamic and expressive, Shawni was ready for something fun—but was tired of stylists giving her generic cuts. Emily introduced textured, layered looks with piecey fringe to add movement, edge, and volume, honoring both her Type 3 intensity and Type 2 softness.

“You want that rockstar edge with a soft touch,” Emily noted. “Let’s bring that personality out!”
(52:07) Valerie – Type 4/3
After 16 years with a classic bob, Valerie wanted a change. Emily proposed a “Bixie”—a bob-meets-pixie cut—to bring structure, statement, and movement without losing the sophistication Type 4s crave.

“This look adds visual interest while keeping the clean lines you love,” Emily said.
Tools, Tips, and FAQs
The live session wrapped with quick tips on:
- Choosing the right curling iron size – Emily recommends a 1″–1.25″ iron for the most versatility.
- Using flat irons for waves – Yes, it works! Just experiment with different directions.
- Caring for bangs – A quick rinse (not a full wash) can refresh them between washes.
- Describing your ideal color to your stylist – Use words like “neutral tone,” “lived-in,” or request toner shades like pearl or violet to clarify your vision.
