How Each Type Walks  – Your Next Step in Energy Profiling

The way your Energy Type is expressed in your walk.

Did you know your walk reflects the movement of your dominant energy Type?

In my book, It’s Just My Nature, I write that you are the truest expression of yourself when you aren’t thinking about being yourself. In simple unconscious actions, like walking, you express your movement most clearly and authentically.

Can you use the way you walk to help figure out your Type?

Walking as an assessment tool falls into the category of Body Profiling and is your secondary tool after Face Profiling. I teach Body Profiling in It’s Just My Nature, along with a full broad understanding of Energy Profiling.

Let’s dive in and discover how our walk reflects our dominant energy’s movement!

(1:30) Type 1 Energy: Upward, Light, Buoyant, and Fun. Walking Keyword: Dance.

Jealah’s thoughts on her Type 1 walk.

Do you like your walk?

“Yes, my walk feels good. It’s free and animated.”

How do you feel your walk is true to your Type?

“My walk is very indicative of my Type. I hardly ever walk in a straight line, and it usually involves some extra movements, hand clapping, dancing, and zig-zagging. I like that my free movement comes out in my walk. I think walking with me would be delightful.”

(3:40) Type 2 Energy: Fluid, Flowing, Soft, and Subtle. Walking Keyword: Glide.

Anne’s thoughts on her Type 2 walk.

Do you like your walk?

“Yes. I’ve never had any problems with the way I walk.”

How do you feel your walk is true to your Type?

“I usually find myself in the middle or back of the group. I have a slower walk or like to linger in the back to be with the stragglers. I don’t like to stop when I’m walking though, I like to keep the flow and movement going forward. I really enjoy daily walks around my neighborhood and do like to increase my speed to get my heart rate up a bit.”

(6:54) Type 3 Energy: Substantial, Dynamic, and Swift. Walking Keyword: Stomp.

Carol’s thoughts on her Type 3 walk.

Do you like your walk?

“Personally, I’ve never had an issue with my heavy-footed, swift walk. However, I’ve noticed others might find it problematic in public spaces. This realization brought me to consciously lighten my steps and move with less swift abruptness. I do not want to be the person that you can feel their pushy energy in places like TSA lines at airport security. In such situations, I always allow others to enter a door or go first if we arrive simultaneously.

How do you feel your walk is true to your Type?

“Very much so, I’ve been stomping around my whole life!!  It was a characteristic that was not shamed out of me as a child!  Maybe because I had a Type 3/1 father and a Type 3/1 brother who out-stomped me!!”

(10:23) Type 4 Energy: Constant, Firm, Structured, and Clean. Walking Keyword: Balanced.

Kalista’s thoughts on her Type 4 walk.

Do you like your walk?

“When I was a girl, I read a book about Abigail Adams. It described how she would practice walking with a book on her head to develop poise and posture. That inspired me to spend a ridiculous amount of time with a book on my head. I don’t know if it paid off, but I’ve been satisfied with my walk and have often received compliments on my posture and walk.”

How do you feel your walk is true to your Type?

“As a Type 4, I have an even gait and walk with intention and purpose. I’m not one to wonder or pace. I feel balanced in my stride. I’ve never noticed or had anyone comment about the noise or weight of my step.”

Your walk reflects the essence of who you are. Take a moment to notice your walk and embrace this authentic expression of your energy Type!
